I was privileged to be part of a group session led by Lou recently.
As a team leader I wanted to embark on some work with my team on mental health. I wanted us to develop the understanding that we each have a mental health and we are responsible for looking after it, that we can support others in our workplace to look after their mental health and that we can develop resilience which will help us to have a more positive outlook and be less emotionally impacted by the challenges we face in our work in school.
In our initial meeting Lou listened carefully and put together a bespoke full day training event for us. My staff team came to the day with very differing views – some sceptical, some feeling vulnerable and some happy to embrace what the day had to offer.
Lou was a wonderful facilitator and quickly put everyone at ease with a range of activities that all were willing to engage with. The day was a mixture of some theory, some sharing, some analysis of where we were emotionally and lots of practical suggestions of how to take control of our inner critic. We all came away feeling much more empowered – knowing how to broach a conversation with a colleague we think might be struggling or how to initiate a conversation when we ourselves are struggling and most importantly understanding that it’s ok not to be ok.

Lou led the session with her usual flair, dealing with any challenge confidently and effectively to gain full buy-in. Lou is not afraid to do something different to help us change our approach and challenge our usual thinking. Her training skill and knowledge of coaching and leadership is a tremendous resource to support us with any training, especially short punchy sessions.
